Poured With Purpose: How Our Candles Are Made, Start to Finish

Step 1: Sourcing Clean, Local Ingredients

Everything begins with the materials. I only use organic soy wax sourced from American-grown soybeans, as well as phthalate-free, non-toxic fragrance oils. All of our supplies come from within the U.S., which helps us cut down on wait times and reduce our carbon footprint. In most cases, I can begin a new project within a week or less of placing an order.

Sourcing locally and ethically is important to me—not only because of sustainability, but because it allows me to maintain the quality and consistency I believe every product should have.

Step 2: Melting the Wax

In my studio, I use two large double boilers that can melt up to 35 pounds of wax at a time. I carefully monitor the temperature to make sure the wax stays within an ideal range. Candle making is part art and part science. Each batch I make is carefully measured, and every scent has its own unique formula based on fragrance load, wax type, and jar size.

I keep a detailed recipe book with percentages and pour temps for every scent I create. It's one of my favorite parts of the process—blending fragrances that are inspired by the gardens, ocean air, and quiet towns of Monmouth County.

Step 3: Blending and Pouring

Once the wax is at the perfect temperature, I blend in the fragrance oil using a standing mixer to ensure the scent is evenly distributed. I mix each batch for about two minutes, then pour the wax into prepped jars that have already been wicked and set.

I don’t use any added color in my candles. I prefer to keep them simple, natural, and clean. The neutral look reflects the purity of the ingredients and allows the scent to speak for itself.

Step 4: Curing and Finishing

After pouring, each candle is left to cure. This step is essential for developing a strong, even scent throw. Once cured, I apply the labels and organize the candles onto the shelves, ready for customers, pop-ups, or wholesale partners.

Although I primarily work in small batches to maintain control and quality, I also have the capacity to fulfill larger wholesale orders for our retail partners and event clients.

Step 5: Sustainable Packaging and Shipping

When an order comes in, I pack it up the very next day using recycled materials and low-waste packaging. Our goal is always to protect the product while minimizing excess waste. Every box is packed with care, just like the candles inside.

Why It Matters

Oddly Brewed was born in 2020, after years of dreaming about creating something of my own. This business isn’t just about candles—it’s about connection, creativity, and conscious living. I hold myself to the same standards I look for as a customer: clean ingredients, thoughtful design, and a fair price.

Our candles are made with old-world quality and modern values. They’re natural, non-toxic, and designed to bring a little calm and comfort into your space.

If you're someone who cares about what you bring into your home, I hope you'll give our candles a try. I think you'll smell the difference.
